Eighty-four down to thirty-one

Four full days of clothes and nothing to wear on a Tuesday. We took the whole thing out onto the rail and put back a third of it.

Autumn, four hours

She came to me with a wardrobe built in three cities over eleven years and no rule holding any of it together. The room took four hours. Sixty pieces went out, twenty-four stayed, seven came in, and four of the keepers went to the tailor before they came home.

The useful discovery was not what to buy. It was that she already owned three white shirts of the same cut and had been wearing the worst of the three because it hung at the front.
